Northern Minnesota
Camp Birchwood is perched on Steamboat Lake, near Walker, Minnesota (about 3.5 hours north of Minneapolis). National Forests and Parks surround the camp and along with many notable recreational areas. This remote location offers campers the opportunity to explore the great outdoors in a setting that is next to none.
Forests, Water, and Woodlands
Camp Birchwood sits on over 200 acres of dense woodlands, grassy green pastures, and sky-blue waters. The quarter mile of lakefront allows for spectacular views!
Steamboat Lake is on the south edge of camp. With its sandy shoreline and gradual sloping bottom, it is the perfect lake for swimming and other water sports.
Camper cabins are arranged in close proximity to one another, the dining hall, and the shower house. Each is unique and all are charming.
Open lawns and wood chip paths connect every activity so campers can find their way around with ease.
Travel to & from Camp
Travel to and from camp is arranged in the Spring. Parents make reservations with the help of our partnering agency, Travel One.
Travel to camp is divided into four different modes of transportation:
1. Fly in/out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport and ride a coach bus to/from camp.
2. Ride a coach bus to/from Minneapolis (for those who do not fly).
3. Get dropped off and/or picked up from camp by car.
4. If flying privately, you can fly into Bemidji Regional Airport or a local airfield. (Please call if you’re using this option.)
*We send Camp Birchwood Chaperones on all flights to/from Chicago and Kansas City. And a chaperone to camp from LAX for one flight on JUN 10.
Travel Tips
Airline Reservations
Airline reservations are made with the help of our Minneapolis Travel Agency. We use Delta Airlines.
Girls flying to/from Chicago and Kansas City are provided with a Birchwood chaperone. A small fee is assessed for this service. All other flights require the purchase of Unaccompanied Minor forms.
Girls who fly in/out of Minneapolis are automatically booked on a private coach bus for the 3.5 hour trip to Birchwood. Counselors on the bus make sure everyone is safe and comfortable.
We also chaperone campers from LAX to MSP one way to camp on 10 JUN 2024.
Bus Reservations
A coach bus is provided to transport girls to/from Minneapolis. To reserve a seat on this bus, please fill out your Travel Forms in your CampInTouch account. Please see the Parent Handbook for details on time of arrival/departure and cost.
Drop-off and pick-up for this bus are conducted in the parking lot of the Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins, Minnesota. Arrival and departure are at midday.
Chaperones check kids in and out and assist parents with placing luggage below. The chaperones are also counselors and help our campers have a fun and comfortable trip to camp (about 3.5 hours).
Driving to/from camp
If parents would like to visit camp, the best way to do so is to pick your daughter UP from camp.
It’s the perfect way to tour the property and see where your daughter had her favorite moments.
You’re welcome to drop a camper off at Birchwood (although it may be more fun to ride the bus with everyone). Directions to/from camp are obtained by special request.
